Opera without boundaries...

The operas and concerts produced by Opera Mauritius have been hailed by the national and international press and have attracted a wider and wider public. 7 000 persons attended The Pearl Fishers in 2009 and the following year Carmen attracted 10 000 spectators. In 2011 after rigourous training, Mauritian artists preformed the academy production of Hansel and Gretel, a family event. Several concerts took place during the last part of 2011.

Opera Mauritius 2012 Traviata is set in the Années Folles, with Mauritian soprano Véronique Zuel-Bungaroo playing Violetta and Peruvian Francesco Petrozzi, of Italian origin, in Alfredo’s part. Both soloists have enchanted the public as well as the press chroniclers during the 2009 and 2010 festivals. This Mauritian production which brings together Mauritian and international artists will be accompanied by the Orchestre Régional de La Réunion, conducted by German maestro Martin Wettges.

Buoyed by the success of its first two seasons, Opera Mauritius has more and more opportunities to breathe new life into the Mauritian artistic scene and become an essential partner of the tourist industry.

Opera Mauritius is a nonprofit making organization whose mission is to create and produce – regularly and professionally – operas, operettas, musicals and ballets. There is also a training programmes under the Opera Mauritius Academy directed at young professionals and underprivileged children.
