Opera Mauritius Academy

Since 2007, vocal training started with the operetta, Le Pays du Sourire, continued in 2009 with Les Pêcheurs de Perles, and afterwards with the production of each new opera. Knowledge sharing brought by foreign professionals, conductors, soloists etc. benefited to the local choir and soloists.

Katrin Caine, the German soprano based in Mauritius, worked hard to prepare the choir before each opera production and then continued with her own choir “Cantiamo” and her children choir “Rainbow Voices”. Visit the partners page.

Since the end of 2015, Véronique Zuël has started a voice-coaching program with Opera Mauritius Academy for promising young soloists; recruitment is subject to the passing of auditions. Those who cannot afford the courses are offered a scholarship sponsored by companies, by donors of the Fondation Spectacles et Culture and by Friends of OperArt. This training brings personal development and may lead to a professional career. To extend this program, Opera Mauritius solicits further help from companies.

In addition, Fondation Spectacles et Culture and Opera Mauritius have helped to promote music and singing in Mangalkan; this has led to the creation of Vent d’un Rêve. Visit the partners page for more information.
