Gregor Amadeus Mayrhofer

Gregor A. Mayrhofer (born 1987 in Munich, Germany) studied composition, aural training and conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris and at the Robert-Schumann-Hochschule Düsseldorf. He took part in several masterclasses in composition and conducting with famous artists and professors all over the world (Germany, Italy, France, Swiss, Russia, Ukraine, USA).

Furthermore he was taught in classical piano, jazz piano, music theory/counterpoint, violin, organ and clarinet.

As a much sought-after young conductor and composer he has worked with internationally famous artists, orchestras and ensembles (Romanian State Philharmony, North Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, Bergische Symphoniker, New Philharmonic Orchestra Nordrhein-Westfalen, Ensemble Nostri Temporis – Kiev, Berlin Sinfonietta, Musikfabrik Köln).

In 2009 he composed the orchestral score for creole songs of the famous mauritian singer Linzy Bacbotte and later was invited to be the musical director of the Opera Mauritius Festival in 2013, conducting the opera production of „Dido and Aeneas“ with mauritian singers.

Composition comissions by Opera Mauritius, Bavarian Broadcasting, Münchner Biennale, Tiroler Festspiele Erl, Bavarian National Youth Choir, Siemens Arts Forum, Bavarian State Opera and others.

Gregor Amadeus Mayrhofer is founder and musical director of the „Studienstiftungsorchester NRW“ and frequently playing with his brother in their awarded jazzduo „Imbrothersation“.

He has performed as pianist, conductor and composer in Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Romania, Ukraine, Mauritius.

Gregor A. Mayrhofer is doing a great effort to support young composers. As a conductor he premiered a lot of new works of contemporary music.

Awards:

  • 1. Prize national competition „Bundeswettbewerb Jugend Musiziert “ (chamber music). The jury awarded him with an additional prize for his extraordinary interpretation.
  • 1. Prize of the „Tassilo Kulturpreis der Süddeutschen Zeitung “ with his jazzensemble „Imbrothersation“
  • Repeatedly awarded by the „Jeunesses Musicales “ National competition for young composers
  • 2. Prize at the „Competition for Composition: Contemporary Music at Schools “ (by the VDS)
  • 1. Prize at the „Crossmedia-Composition-Competition “
  • Awarded with a composition price of the „Landesverband Bayerischer Tonkünstler “
  • Receiving scholarships by the „Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes “, by the „Goethe Institut Kiev“ and by „Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now “
